The month of February is full of culture and festivity, with Brisbane holding some epic events not to be missed. From the ICC Cricket World Cup to the Chinese cultural show Shen Yun, there’s something to suit everyone. Here’s our pick of what’s happening in Brisbane this February:
Shen Yun
For just two days, the global phenomenon that is Shen Yun will grace the stage at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. It will feature exquisite costumes, animated backdrops, and its own unique orchestra. With Shen Yun’s ability to transform you into another world, it’s little wonder this show is selling out globally.

MELT: A Celebration of Queer Arts and Culture
To coincide with Sydney’s famous Mardi Gras, the Brisbane Powerhouse will host MELT, a celebration of music, cabaret, comedy, circus, visual arts and community panels, as well as an inspirational queer film festival. Celebrate summer and help promote LGBTIQ rights.

Australian Enduro-x Nationals
Enduro-x has been seeing great success in both the USA and Europe and is the fastest growing motorcycle sport in Australia in the past three years. Over three rounds, the Enduro-x Nationals will test skill, stamina and endurance, with the Brisbane round seeing the country’s best off-road motorcycle riders compete over a course of rocks, logs, tyres and creek beds.

Star Trek Live in Concert
Star Trek Live in Concert boldly goes where no other performance has gone and explores a glorious collaboration of music and film. In a Queensland premier event, J.J. Abram’s acclaimed film is brought to life with the Academy-Award winning Michael Giacchino’s score, performed by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Benjamin Schostakowski, director of multi-award winning A Tribute of Sorts, has created a sensational rendition of a classic Shakespeare play. Managing to transport the playwright’s enchanted lovers, fools and fairies from the wilderness of Athens to a nostalgia-tinged vision of Australian suburbia, this clever performance promises to deliver a sensuous cocktail of humour and darkness.

The Divine Miss Bette
For more than four years, Catherine Alcorn has been wowing audiences with The Divine Miss Bette, enjoying sold out seasons right across Australia. Catherine is an award-winning performance artist who’s been described as “magnificent”, “hilarious”, “energetic”, and “charismatic”. Her superb voice combined with sharp comedic timing has the audience wrapped around her finger from the moment she walks on stage.

Spring Romance
In the spirit of St Valentine’s Day, the Schonell Theatre at the University of Queensland will feature Spring Romance, a hysterical take on workplace love in show business. The musical comedy includes David Hibbard, alongside a great cast and songs from Franz Lehar, Gilbert and Sullivan, and Meredith Wilson.

Angus & Julia Stone
In support of their self-titled third album Angus & Julia Stone, Angus and Julia Stone will hit Brisbane’s Riverstage for a sensational night of outdoor entertainment. Joining the duo will be Cloud Control, Jarryd James, and Little May.

Circa Beyond
Celebrate with your Valentine and enjoy a warm, surreal and unexpectedly moving blend of dynamic circus acts, enchanting ballads and bewitching showtunes. Set on multiple stages within stages, red-curtained world’s separate seven artists each with their own athletic and graceful performance.

Guy Sebastian Madness Tour
Australia’s most successful male artist will embark on his first ever national arena tour, stopping at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Feb 14th. For intense fans, the “Mad House” ticket is a must, allowing fans an up-close-and-personal experience and involvement in the show.

(Not) The Last Night of Proms
Originally conceived in the days of the Empire when Britannia ruled the waves, the Last night of the Proms is a celebration of popular classics, patriotism, pomp and circumstance. The concert features classics such as God Save the Queen, Jerusalem, Carmen and the William Tell Overture.

The Pirates of Penzance
For fans of Gilbert and Sullivan, this condensed version of the popular Pirates of Penzance performance is sure to delight. Starring a cast of only six energetic and brilliant performers, the hilarious show features Philip Gould as the swashbuckling Pirate King.

ICC Cricket World Cup
Set across both Australia and New Zealand, the only game to hit Brisbane in this year’s ICC Cricket World Cup will be held February 21st at The Gabba. The game: Australia Vs Bangladesh.

Brisbane Comedy Festival
Starring the best of Australian and international comedians, the Brisbane Comedy Festival will have your sides aching as you roar with laughter at Brisbane’s Powerhouse. Festival event highlights include Chris Wainhouse, Jack Druce, Dave Thornton, and Fiona O’Loughlin. The main event will be the Brisbane Comedy Festival Gala, to be held at the newly-renovated City Hall on Feb 28th.
