A Gold Coast Guide to January Events

As families flock to the beautiful Gold Coast for summer holiday fun, more exciting events are added to the list of things to do. From dancing the night away and movies under the stars to nature trails and great food and wine, there’s plenty happening in the City of the Gold Coast.

Brazouka

Brazouka is a spectacular dance story, born on the streets of Brazil. Performed by Brazil’s most thrilling new dance troupe, Brazouka is the personal story of Braz Dos Santos’ struggle to become the world’s best freestyle Lambazouk dancer.

Movies in the Park

What better way to spend a balmy summer evening then by curling up under the stars for a great movie. An initiative of the City of Gold Coast, movies in January include: Rio 2, Frozen, Lego Movie, and Rise of the Guardians.

2015 Jeep Magic Millions Yearling Sales

Australia’s number one Summer Racing Carnival is the leading source of Champions and high class performers. Over 25 sales are held each carnival, including yearlings, breeding stock, and ready to run sales. The event closes with the Magic Millions Race Day, which offers an impressive $4.7 million in prize money, making it the world’s richest sales-based incentive raceday.

Chuparosa – Summer Tour

The ever expanding conglomerate of reggae, groove, dub, ska, dubstep, and upbeat funk is celebrating the release of their second EP by offering a free summer show at the Coolangatta Hotel. As the happiest crew in Australian music, it looks set to be a fun night!

6th International SURF n’ Ink Tattoo Festival

Whether you want a new tattoo or simply want to see some incredible art, the Surf n’ Ink Festival is the place to be. Featuring renowned international and national tattooing artists, bands, DJ’s circus acts, street artists and competitions, there’s lots of fun to be had.

The Summer Series

Get creative over summer and take part in a range of free activities at The Arts Centre. Learn to dance, unleash your inner artist or try your hand at some circus acrobatics.

Curtis Falls Walk

Enjoy the majestic rainforest and wet eucalypts as you take a ranger-guided tour of the Joalah section, finishing at the spectacular Curtis Falls.

Free Community Talk on Depression, Sadness, Grief and Loss

In tough times, the world can often seem overwhelming. Loss, be it the loss of a loved one, job or relationship, can feel all too encompassing. This talk aims to equip participants with the right tools for handling their sadness.

FMX & Monster Truck Spectacular

The biggest indoor monster truck spectacular is hitting the Gold Coast, this event includes extreme Monster Slam Freestyle Trucks, FMX Motorcross stunts, BMX death-defying airborne flips, fireworks, a laser light show, and a battle between Australia’s most famous monster trucks, Outback Thunder and Scooby Doo.

The Kazoos What’s Up Croc? A Musical Adventure

A fast-paced comedy, music and dance show that every kid will love, The Kazoos What’s Up Croc? will follow the antics of Professor Silly and friend Tulip.

Laugh Your Pants Off

Start the Australia Day long weekend with a laugh, with acts such as Judith Lucy, Lawrence Mooney and Troy Kinne hitting the Casino stage.

Australia Day Race Day

With a jam-packed program of family fun activities, the Summer of Sounds music festival and live horse racing, thousands of people will flock to the Gold Coast Turf Club in a patriotic celebration.

Australia Day Celebrations

Celebrate all things Aussie with a family fun day full of food and entertainment. Dress in green and gold, wave the flag proudly and come join in the patriotic excitement.

Gold Coast Health Harmony Soul

Over 100 exhibitors and leaders in health, wellbeing and spirituality will gather at the Gold Coast Convention Centre for three days of workshops, shopping, presentations and entertainment.

 

When: 30 January – 1 February

Gold Coast Food & Wine Expo

More than 150 exhibitors and food and wine experts will gather for the annual 3-day Food & Wine Expo. Check out your favourite chef as they cook up a storm on the Celebrity Main Stage, enjoy a delicious dinner or lunch, and taste, sample and learn the art of fine food and wine.
