The Brisbane City Council is piloting a new program aimed at improving the way local residents use and enjoy the green spaces in the city. The Chairs2Share program offers 40 outdoor chairs for use by tourists and local residents.
The chairs are located in Post Office Square, and other furniture pieces, including bistro chairs, deck chairs and tables have also been made available. Workers and residents in the Central Business District can enjoy the chairs as well as the free Wi-Fi that is already available at Post Office Square.
The program is aimed at boosting enjoyment and use of public recreational areas in the city of Brisbane. It is part of the Council’s efforts at transforming Brisbane into a New World City.
The program will run for six months and is due to finish at the end of 2013, in December. Upon completion, the Council will evaluate the impact of the program and the furniture items will be reused for other Council programs and events.
