Every Saturday, the Eveleigh Market brings the farm to Sydney’s heart with over 70 stalls of fresh locally grown produce and artisanal foods.
Each week, local New South Wales food producers bring their fresh breads, cheeses and dips, fruits and vegetables, meats, oils, wines and more to Carriageworks, the former railway yards in inner-city Redfern.
Inner-city dwellers are flocking to this thriving market to stock up on culinary treats from freshly harvested black Perigord truffles, sourdough breads and heirloom tomatoes to smoked seafoods, pomegranates and zucchini flowers. Meat and poultry producers sell an array of unusual boutique offerings such as goat cuts, biodynamic lamb and free-range pork.
Part of the appeal is that a lot of produce is seasonal. Think tamarillos. limes and the latest pistachio crop, as well as chemical-free apricots, apples, and avocados.
Many stallholders sell even more exotic produce – have you ever sampled rare medicinal herbs or buffalo milk gelato?
In the historic Blacksmith’s Workshop, shoppers can get up close and personal with the producers who grow their food. Here in this hub, you can talk, taste and sample new produce as you hear the stories behind the food, straight from the source.
