You wake up in your luxury suites in Brisbane to a beautiful blue-sky day. How do you make the most of it? We’d suggest heading down to one of the city’s many markets to find the freshest in food and fashion. Here are what we believe to be the best Brisbane markets for a relaxed day out.
Saturday Fresh Market
6am to 12pm every Saturday
If you’re after a huge choice of fresh and tasty produce, then the Saturday Fresh Markets are perfect for you because they’re one of the biggest in Brissie! Over 220 stalls open each weekend at Brisbane MarketPlace to offer fruit and vegetables, meat, baked treats, flowers, plants and gourmet goodies. There’s also live entertainment which takes place at the food court stage. Entry is just, $4 per car, or $1 per person if you choose to stroll in instead.
Sunday Discovery Market
6am to 12pm every Sunday
Once you’ve filled your fridge with fruit and veg, return to Brisbane MarketPlace on Sunday morning to peruse over 380 stalls for some quality homewares – we’re talking hundreds of collectables and antiques, books and music, clothes, toys, plants and more. Your $4 car entry fee covers parking, so it’s easy to set out and find yourself some unique treasures!
The Collective Markets
5pm to 9pm Friday, 10am to 9pm Saturday and 9am to 4pm Sunday
The Collective Markets take place at Stanley Street Plaza on South Bank and it’s a trendy place to be over the weekend, whether you’re searching for vintage clothing, art and photography or locally made ceramics for friends and family back home. Parking and transport are both easy, with bus, train and ferry stations all nearby and a huge carpark underneath the Plaza.
Bakers Lane Providore Market
9am to 1pm on the first Saturday of each month
If you’re seeking some of Brisbane’s best food with creative twists, you’ll find it at the Bakery Lane Providore Market at 690 Ann Street. The stalls here are operated by local producers offering up their small-batch delicacies including amazing coffee, honey, baked goods and condiments. Make a morning of it and explore the Bakery Lane shops and galleries to the sound of live music, before treating yourself to lunch at a trendy Fortitude Valley café.
Pets at the Gabba
3pm to 8pm on the fourth Saturday of every month
Our furry and feathery friends needn’t miss out when it comes to markets. Pets at the Gabba is a not-for-profit event each month where shoppers can find treats and accessories for cats, dogs, birds and other beloved pets. There’s also plenty happening for the humans too, with live entertainment and delicious food stalls. Bring along Fluffy on a leash and enjoy, knowing that proceeds from the event are going to various charities.
