Would you like to watch a play on a boat or in a bookshop? If you’re in Brisbane between 10 and 27 May you may be able to do just that by jumping into the mystery and magic of Anywhere Theatre Festival. This unique 18-day event brings together talented performers and producers with unusual spaces and local business venues to create an amazing array of unexpected theatre, comedy and music performances. Here’s what you need to know and where to find amazing one bedroom suites in Brisbane for the ultimate weekend.
There are two great reasons that Anywhere Theatre is dotted throughout unusual places and spaces in Brisbane. Firstly, the flexible locations allow local performers and producers to put on amazing shows without having to wait for venues to be available to encourage new talent. These performances also encourage us to explore Brisbane’s city in ways we never have. If that’s not a win-win situation, we don’t know what is.
What to look out for
With over 500 individual events over 18 days, you have plenty of choice when you’re deciding what to see and where to see it. Events may be held down alleys, on buses, in stairwells or in backyards. You might choose to experience comedy, opera, a historical presentation or a heart-wrenching drama. You might even like to join in on an unusual cooking or crafty workshop.
Tickets can be found at Anywhere Theatre Festival, and most are under $20. If events aren’t sold out you can also buy them on the door. There are plenty of free events, and you might even get to experience an unannounced flash mob if you’re in the right place at the right time! It’s also great to hear that most of the festival’s venues are wheelchair friendly, although be sure to confirm this ahead of time to be certain.
And remember – if you’re looking for accommodation in Brisbane’s CBD, Meriton Suites offers premium suites right amongst all the action. Large living spaces, pillowtop beds and your own kitchen for your stay: these suites have it all, and in several CBD locations too. Stay central, and see more theatre anywhere…
