Renowned folk singer Joan Baez will tour Australia’s capital cities during August for the first time in 25 years. The iconic singer has been singing ever since she made her debut in the cafes of Cambridge, Massachusetts 55 years ago, at the age of 17.
Baez is known for her crystal-clear voice, guitar playing and startling beauty. At the age of 13, she was inspired to devote herself to folk songs and guitar playing after hearing Pete Seeger perform live. Her first album was released when she was 19 and she appeared on the cover of Time Magazine at the age of 21.
It is surprising to discover that Baez initially suffered from stage fright, which she overcame with the help of meditation and psychotherapy. A revival of interest in her music has occurred over the past few years, due to the release of a documentary (‘How Sweet the Sound’) and the release of her 2008 album, Day After Tomorrow.
During her tour, Baez will perform at the Adelaide Festival, the Melbourne Hamer Hall, Perth Concernt Hall, Sydney Opera House, and Canberra Royal Theatre.
