Glitter Festival 2015 – On The Gold Coast

If you’re looking for an all-inclusive festival to attend to on the Gold Coast, then the Glitter Festival is where you need to go. Glitter Festival is a huge first for the Gold Coast, which is intended to celebrate the LGBTIQAP+ community. Presented by The Arts Centre Gold Coast, the festival is aiming to bring the community together through varied mediums, arts and cultures. There is an extensive schedule for the week long festival that will be held in various locations across the coast. The aim is to provide something for everyone, from cabaret shows and visual arts, to long lunches and a race day at the Turf Club. The festival is due to run from Monday 28 September through to Monday 5 October.

Glitter Fest Films

When: Various Dates Where: The Arts Centre Gold Coast Ticket prices: $14 Adult, $11 Concession/Student, $9 Senior/Pensioner, $9.50 Friends of the Arts Centre Members, $8.50 Concession Member There will be various films shown throughout the Glitter Festival that will appeal to all movie-goers. If you’re looking for a romantic film, be sure to see Jenny’s Wedding. But if you’re after something a little bit fun and full of antici…pation, set aside some time to get to see the screening of The Rocky Horror Picture show, which includes ‘pre-event fun’. With other movie titles also being screened, be sure to check in at The Arts Centre to see what movies you don’t want to miss.


When: 6pm Monday 28th September Where: The Arts Centre Gold Coast Ticket prices: Free When you combine visual arts with yoga, the obvious outcome is Yogart. Yogart gives you the opportunity to explore the Glitter exhibition, “Inclusive”, via a private tour guided by assistant curator Emma Collerton. After your tour, enjoy a free Hatha Yoga session in the gallery, which is beneficial for both beginners and experienced participants.

Tacos and Tiaras

When: 6pm Tuesday 29th September Where: QT Hotel, Gold Coast Ticket prices: FREE entry Extra features: $3 tacos and cash bar Stingray Bar situated in QT Hotel on the Gold Coast will be hosting the Tacos and Tiaras event during the festival. The event has the special feature of being free to enter, and has some excellently priced tacos on offer for just $3. Everyone can afford to have a great time at these special rates. Drinks, music and the opportunity to meet with like-minded people will ensure a great night out for everyone. The event will run for 3 hours, and is for ages 18 years and older.

Identity Cocktail Evening

When: 5:30pm Wednesday 30th September Where: The Arts Centre Gold Coast Ticket prices: Free (RSVP essential) The Identity Cocktail Evening is a great event which will be run by the Brisbane Gay and Lesbian Business Network (GLBN) to allow an evening for business owners and representatives of the LGBTIQAP+ community to network and socialise with other like-minded businesses. Light canapes and a complimentary drink will be provided while socialising with others during this wonderful cocktail event.

The Lunch That Drags

When: 12.:30pm Friday 2nd October, 12:30PM Where: Tedder Avenue restaurants, Main Beach Ticket prices: $75 per person Extra features: Cash bar Greeted with a glass of bubbly, you’ll be able to spend the afternoon amongst great company and great food. Glitter performers will also make an appearance, making your meal into a show. After your lazy lunch, you can head over to Bar Chico for $10 Glitter themed cocktails. Kick start the weekend with this extended lunch break, which will be sure to make your weekend even better.

Liza (on an E)

When: 8:15pm Friday 2nd October Where: The Arts Centre Gold Coast Ticket prices: $45 Adult, $40 Concession If you’re looking for some show-stopping entertainment and enjoy a bit of Liza Minnelli, go no further than the show “Liza (on an E)”. Featuring the talented Trevor Ashley channeling the famous Minnelli in a show not to be missed, Ashley dishes the dirt on the life of Liza that will have you crying, laughing, and wanting more.

Glitter Race Day

When: 11am-5pm Saturday 3rd October Where: The Dome, Gold Coast Turf Club, Racecourse Drive, Surfers Paradise Ticket prices: $75 Extra features: Ticket includes entry, drink on arrival and canapes all day This 18+ event will be held at the Gold Coast Turf Club to host what will be one of the must-attend events of the year. It doesn’t matter if horse racing isn’t quite your thing, there will still be something to make your day. There will be fashions on the field for both males and females, as well as some cabaret performance acts. You’ll be able to mingle with local and national celebrities as well as some fantastic live music throughout the day. Get your fascinators ready for this event!

Pride Run Gold Coast

When: 7:30am Sunday 4th October Where: Evandale Parklands, Bundall If you love getting your running shoes on, or perhaps you know how to run well in heels, the Pride Run will be sure to make your day. There are a few different categories to choose from, so it doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned athlete or a dog lover, there’s an event for you. Choose from the 5km Rainbow Run or Walk, the 3km Paws with Pride, the 70m High Heel Dash, or the 700m Little Flyers event for kids up to 12 years of age. Dress up if you wish to show off your true colours in what will be a great day for individuals and families alike.

Glitter Fair Day

When: 10am-8pm Sunday 4th October Where: Lakeside at Evandale Ticket prices: Free Once you’ve finished off your run and want to sit back and relax, head to the Glitter Fair Day. Like other Fair Day events of other LGBTIQAP+ festivals, Fair Day is full of relaxed outdoor entertainment, picnics and activities. There will be shop stalls, bands, DJ’s, food, and outdoor games for everyone to enjoy. Fair Day is all inclusive and families are, of course, welcomed. The whole event is then finished off with a relaxing viewing outside of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.


When: 5:30pm until late, Sunday 4th October Where: Escape Bar & Club Ticket prices: Free for Glitter Festival patrons If you’re looking to dance the night away and enjoy a social and upbeat evening at one of the Gold Coast’s best nightclubs, head to Escape Bar & Club. Free entry is available for Glitter Festival patrons, and the night is sure to be full of great music, dancing and being social. Finish off a big weekend by spending it at Escape Bar, which will include shows on their Sky Deck, with music both indoors and outdoors.
