Music Festivals on the Gold Coast
20 June 2013
The Gold Coast is known for its sandy beaches and great waves, but it is also famous for its music festivals and events. The Gold Coast hosts some major music events throughout the year, making it a highly sought after destination for a weekend getaway during these times. During the festival period, top accommodation can be difficult to find, so if you are travelling to the area for an event, book your Gold Coast apartment or hotels in advance.
Summafieldayze is a popular music festival held every January on the Gold Coast, as well as in other cities such as Perth and Melbourne. Attracting major international and local artists, the festival has been labelled Australia’s most iconic festival, and often attracts as many as 30,000 people. The festival usually lasts for just one day, and it is a ticketed event. In 2013, the festival features acts such as The Chemical Brothers, M.I.A., and Mark Ronson.
Big Day Out
If you are looking for a major event to attend, you will probably want to include Big Day Out on your itinerary. Big Day Out is an annual music festival that is held during the summer in five Australian cities. The Gold Coast, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide all participate in the festival, and in 2012 Auckland also held its own Big Day Out festival.
Big Day Out is a large event that often features six, seven, or eight stages, depending on the event. There are can be as many as 700 performers and supporting crew for the event. The event is so popular that occasionally second shows are held in large cities such as Sydney.
Like Summafieldayze, Big Day Out is held in January, though usually in the latter weeks of January. It consistently attracts the top names in music, both local and international artists. The festival covers many genres, including rock, pop, indie, heavy metal, punk rock, industrial, and electronic.
The Good Vibrations festival is one of the most renowned and exciting festivals on the Gold Coast. Debuting in 2004, the festival is generally held in February and in a number of different cities, including Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and the Gold coast. The festival features a number of local and international performers and encompasses a range of genres. While Good Vibrations was last held in 2011, it is set to return again in 2014.
The Blues on Broadbeach
The Blue on Broadbeach is a blues music festival held every May over four days. The festival features local and international acts, and has been a free or non-ticketed event since its inception. If you enjoy blues music, this festival is a must for your event calendar.
