24 June 2013
The Gold Coast is one of the most popular destinations for international and local travellers in Australia. It is well known for its amazing beach views, pristine beaches, and swimming spots. If you are looking for a great swimming spot for you and the family, here are some of the best beaches on the Gold Coast.
As it is located in the heart of the Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise is probably the best known beach. Surfers Paradise Beach is almost three kilometres in length, with gentle waves suitable for beginner swimmers and surfers. In terms of accommodation on the Gold Coast, serviced apartments close to Surfers Paradise are popular with singles, couples, and families as these offer convenience, spaciousness, and value for money. Staying in Surfers Paradise keeps you close to the nightlife and the best of the cafes and shopping strips in the area.
Main Beach is another famous beach on the Gold Coast. Situated to the east of the Nerang River, this beach is separated from Surfers Paradise by a peninsula to the south. There are bathing pavilions, surf lifesaving clubs, al fresco cafes, and easy access to water sports equipment for hire.
Broadbeach is a popular destination for families. With its abundance of shelters, BBQs, playgrounds, parklands, and picnic areas, this beach is a perfect place to spend a family day by the water. Other than swimming, you can take long walks along the paths, browse the markets, and explore the local shops.
Mermaid Beach is usually less busy than Broadbeach or Surfers Paradise. It remains a popular beach for families, as there are picnic areas, bike tracks, and great local restaurants and cafés. The beach also offers excellent breaks for surfers.
Miami Beach, located on the southern end of the Gold Coast, is another family-friendly beach that is usually much quieter than the other larger beaches on the Gold Coast. For a spectacular view of the beach, take a short walk up the cliff. There are kids’ adventure playgrounds, BBQs, and picnic tables, as well as an extremely clean sandy beach. Shop on the Esplanade and explore the local restaurants and cafes.
Currumbin Beach is a very clean beach offering crystal clear water, rock pools, and gentle waves. There are eating areas, BBQs, and excellent fishing spots on this beach, making it another swimming spot to add to your list if you are looking for a quieter destination.
Located in the southern suburb of Bilinga, Bilinga Beach has a stretch of white sand surrounded by deep blue waters. The beach is great for keen swimmers and offers views to Surfers Paradise and Coolangatta. It is within walking distance to local restaurants, bars, cafes, and shopping centres.
Tugun Beach is located in the beachside suburb of Tugun. Its waters are great for swimming and surfing, and the incredible white sandy beach has made the area popular with holidaymakers. There are picnic facilities and BBQ areas, so it is an ideal place for families.
