Summer on the Gold Coast: Everything You Need to Know
January 7, 2016
It’s easy to see why the Gold Coast is still one of Australia’s favourite holiday destinations. In addition to some of the world’s best beaches, the region contains a wide variety of activities for the entire family.
No matter what age you are and who you decide to visit the sunny Gold Coast with, there are plenty of things to see and do while staying in this stunning area of Australia.
Some great family activities on the Gold Coast for the Holidays include:
Great Australian cuisine – There are several great restaurants featuring traditional Aussie food, such as garlic prawns and steaks, in the area. Recommended favourites include The Mustering Yard in Jimbooba, the Railway Hotel in Beaudesert, and Café 17 in Boonah (reputedly the best pizza on the Gold Coast).
Queensland is known to be home to some of the best restaurants in Australia, and the Gold Coast is no stranger to some of these fantastic chefs and eateries.
Take a hike to Condamine Gorge – Although it’s only accessible when the weather is dry, the trip is well worth it. Reach it by taking Rathdowny Road to Carney’s Creek Road from Boonah. There are some amazing 4WD tracks to drive through, and the whole area is a scenic wonderland.
This is a great place for the lover of all things outdoors and even the avid photographer to take some snaps of this great and amazing spot. If you’re looking to rough it out on a camping trip, this is a great place to consider. There are no shops here, so be sure to stock up before you get here and enjoy a night or a few getting back to basics.
Bribie Island – This beach has really great swimming all around, and some of the best safe swimming for kids. Best of all, it’s right off the Bruce Highway at Caboolture. The beaches at Bribie Island are some of the most beautiful in the world, and there’s plenty to see and do here. One such attraction is the BBQ Boat Hire. These boats can cater to 6, 8 and 12 people and there is no need to worry about bringing safety equipment, as this is all provided. There are amenities on board, with seating and tables available so you can enjoy your BBQ on the water.
A great part is that it can be skippered by anyone over the age of 18 without the need for a boat licence, which makes this the perfect opportunity for a lovely day on the water.
One of the key places to visit during your stay on the Gold Coast is the iconic area of Surfer’s Paradise. Whether you enjoy the sunshine and beach or looking to relax somewhere quiet or perhaps looking to party the night away, Surfers Paradise has it all. Spend the day on the beach with great surfing opportunities and photo moments. The new foreshore also allows cyclists, skateboarders or those looking to take a stroll be able to do so with the beautiful beach as their background.
And there are plenty of excellent bars and restaurants scattered across Surfers Paradise, with many different kinds of cuisines available for all tastes. If you’re looking for a quick bite to eat, there’s also a huge amount of take away treats to be had. Don’t forget about the large numbers of bars and clubs here as well, if you’re looking to party the night away in style.
One of the biggest attractions of the Gold Coast are the fun and exciting theme parks. The main parks are Dreamworld, Whitewater World, Sea World, Wet n Wild and Warner Bros Movie World. There’s a park to suit every family, so there’s no need to feel like someone is going to miss out.
If you’re looking for thrills and adventure, be sure to head to Dreamworld. Dreamworld is home to some of the most exciting rides in Australia and is great for adults and teens alike. There are some great attractions for younger children, as well so there is still plenty for them to enjoy here.
If you love sea life and animals, Sea World is the best place to visit. You can even enjoy staying here, too due to their visit and stay packages staying at Sea World Nara Resort. You can see some of the greatest animals of the sea right here at Sea World, and even some of your favourite cartoon characters are here at Cartoon Network Cartoon Beach and Sesame Street Beach.
Warner Bros Movie World is one of the best places to become a star and see some of your favourite heroes. Characters such as Superman and Scooby Doo are all able to be met here, and then you can enjoy a ride or two, such as on the Lethal Weapon ride. One of the key attractions here is the stunt show where the audience can also get a taste of what it’s like to be in a movie.
If you’re looking for a way to cool off on a hot summer’s day here on the Gold Coast, you can spend the day with the whole family at either Wet n Wild or White Water World. There are rides and attractions for all ages, so no one will miss out. If rides aren’t really your scene, there’s plenty of places to chill out and relax in the sun and by the water while the kids enjoy a ride and a swim.
When you’re on the Gold Coast, one of the key things you want to experience is the surf and outdoors. Water sports and activities are plentiful here and you’ll be able to experience them all right here during your stay. Jet boating is widely available at the “Spit” on the Gold Coast, and when you arrive you’ll be able to see the jet boats whizzing around the waters. If jet skis are more your scene, you can hire one and enjoy them at your leisure.
Gold Coast Watersports is located inside Sea World and provide you with all your water sports needs such as jet skiing, parasailing, stand up paddle boards, kayaks and more. The best part with jet skiing is that you don’t need any special licences to use them, so nearly everyone can enjoy hiring them.
If you’re looking to get around the Gold Coast in style (and in the most enjoyable way possible), you may want to consider the Super Duck Adventure Tours. The tour runs for approximately an hour and travels all through the Gold Coast from Main Beach and Southport, then it will drive into the water and take you on a tour along the Gold Coast harbour. It will then take you past Sea World and the glamourous Palazzo Versace, down the famous Esplanade then back to the starting point at Appel Park. The Super Duck is one of the best ways to get a glimpse of all parts of the Gold Coast and is an exciting trip for both kids and adults.
If you’re looking for a night out that’s different, exciting, full of entertainment and can provide a bit of “Vegas” to your night, you can’t go past visiting the famous Jupiter’s Casino on Broadbeach Island. Not only is it a place to try out with a bit of betting and gambling, there’s so much more to experience here. There’s a stunning new swimming pool, and massage therapy at Touch Therapy. There are various restaurants and bars and of course, great entertainment shows to enjoy. You can also stay here as they provide excellent, high quality rooms.
