The Gold Coast often reminds us of the beautiful beaches of Surfers Paradise and the exotic and beautiful warm weather to be enjoyed here. The Gold Coast makes for a great holiday destination, especially for those with young families. There are of course the amusement parks nearby, which the kids will enjoy attending. However, what is there to do at the Gold Coast when these have been visited and everyone is sick of sitting on the beach all day?
If the beach is starting to get too much and you want something a little bit more from your stay on the Gold Coast, there are plenty of events you can attend. During the Christmas period, this is no different. To really narrow it down, we’ve selected our top three picks for events that you can’t afford to miss out on in December.
Australian PGA Championship
1st December and 3rd – 6th December
During December you’ll be able to catch the Australian PGA Championship at the RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast. Even for those who aren’t huge followers of the game, the PGA Championship is a great way to get out in the sunshine, enjoy some competition and watch some live sport.
With $1.75 million at stake, the event is sure to bring some of the biggest fans of the game. If you’re not wanting to stand and walk all over the course, there will be grandstands situated adjacent to the 18th and 10th tee, but you’ll have to be there early as seats are available to those who are first there. There will be some days where entry is free, so if you want a slice of the action without paying for tickets, be sure to check out the practice days. You can also bring your own food and drink with you if you need to (just not in bulky eskys), however there will be plenty of food stalls on site to help cater to your needs throughout the days.
If you have young children, be sure to go to the Kids Day, which will be held on the 1st of December. This event is great for children to get to meet some golfing greats as well as enjoy some activities throughout the day. There will be player autograph sessions as well as meeting Elsa and Olaf from Frozen, and Dreamworld’s Kenny and Belinda. This is a free event for kids under 16 years of age, and all attendees to the Kids Day will receive a showbag full of goodies.
Christmas at Surfers Paradise plus Carols on the Beach
13th – 24th December
Christmas in the warm weather can sometimes seem a little odd to those more used to the cold northern hemisphere scene of winter and a cold, white Christmas. So, what do you do if you live near the beach, it’s hot and it’s Christmas? You organise Christmas events right on the beach. Cavill Mall will light up with Christmas lights and Santa will even make an appearance on his surfboat sleigh pulled by six kangaroos. You’ll have to bring your camera so that you can take a photo of the jolly man in red for yourself as this will be a sight you don’t want to miss!
Santa and his elf helper will even be there to take free photos with the family during this time. between 12pm and 3pm and again at 4pm to 7pm, you can grab a free photo with him as you ask for all of those little goodies you’d like to see under the tree on Christmas Day.
On the 20th of December, Santa will only be available for photos in the afternoon as he will be making an appearance at the Carols on the Beach event. On Surfers Paradise beach, you can enjoy the wonderful, joyful sounds of your favourite Christmas carols. Be sure to bring a picnic blanket to this free event and listen to some great artists belt out some of your favourite carols as the night sets in. To top it off, there will be a fireworks display to light up the night sky.
New Year’s Eve White Party
If you’re looking for a great way to bring in the new year, be sure to consider the White Party – it will surely be an exciting and extravagant event to participate in. Starting from 5pm, you’ll be taken on a sunset boat cruise to a secret location island where the party will really begin. Don’t fret, as you’ll be travelling to the island in style in a two-levelled spacious fleet among the other guests on their way to the party of the year. The party can start as soon as you get on the boat thanks to the on-board licenced bar, so your hour and fifteen minute boat ride will slip away.
When you arrive at your location, there will be fully licenced bars, the amazing White Stage, and Live Acts by international artists will be there to make your night. So, be sure to be wearing your best white outfit and enjoy the sounds and sights of one of the greatest parties you may ever attend.
Getting home is easy. There will be hourly trips back to the mainland to get you home when you please and the party finishes at 4:30 when the last trip home will allow you to see the sun rise on a new day and a new year.
