Travelling to the Royal Easter Show in Sydney

Friday March 16th, 2012

One of Australia’s favourite festivals, the Sydney Royal Easter Show, will be held from April 5-18 in 2012. Taking place at Sydney Olympic Park and consisting of rides, agricultural exhibits, displays, show bags, food and all sorts of fun, this is easily one of the most family-friendly events of the year. No matter where you’re coming from, the following pointers will help your adventure to Sydney for the Show to be an easy one.

Getting there

Obviously you’ll need to get to Sydney first. From there, getting to the show is as easy as jumping on the bus or train, no matter where you are in the city. Sydney Olympic Park was designed to be easily accessible for the Olympics, which now benefits anyone heading to the Easter Show. Showlink tickets are available and can save you money on getting to the Show by bus, train or ferry. If you’re visiting Sydney for a few days, it may be worth hiring a car, both to get you to the Show and also around town to see the sights before you have to leave.

If you’re going to the show with your family, sometimes it’s just easier to bring the car, and there is plenty of parking at the Showground. There are even free shuttle services available to get you from the car park right to the gates of the Show.

Where to stay

Since the Showground is so easy to get to, it almost doesn’t matter what part of the city you choose to stay in, though if you are coming from out of town and want to get a look at other Sydney highlights while here, stay as close to the CBD and Sydney Harbour as you can. Sydney is certainly not short on accommodation, and you’re going to be pretty wiped after a big day at the show, so make sure to get somewhere quiet and comfortable. Short term accommodation in Sydney is world class, and between the Sydney apartments, hostels and hotels, you’re sure to find just the right spot.

What to bring

Travelling to the Sydney Royal Easter Show is always a big day out, so you’d be well advised to come prepared. As usual, there will be a large variety of food and drinks for sale at the Show, though it is a good idea to bring along some snacks for the journey there. If you’re bringing kids, just prepare the same way as you would for any other family day out, though make sure you bring some sort of backpack for all those show bags.

Even if you’ve been 10 times before, every trip to the Royal Easter Show promises to be one you’ll remember for ever, whether you’re a child or an adult. Sydney is well set up for tourists and this helps everyone travelling to the Show make it there easily; and with the Show being a huge event on its own, you’ll want getting there to be as easy as possible so you can conserve your energy for the day itself.
