You can enjoy a leisurely brunch of corn and zucchini fritters topped with a poached egg at The Plantation House Café, 1/43 Tallebudgera Creek Road, Burleigh Heads. This local favourite is styled like an old-style grocer store with shelves groaning with delicious produce vintage wares.
Or check out Paddock Bakery, Hibiscus Haven, which is open every day from 6.30am. It offers delicious coffee and a wide range of freshly baked delights, including cinnamon doughnuts and sourdough bread.
There’s nothing like some Mediterranean inspired food to remind you that, whilst it may still be winter, summer is not far away.
Hellenika, 2235 Gold Coast Highway, Nobby Beach is the creation of its passionate owner Simon Gloftis. This warm and welcoming restaurant features mezze type starters including fava, mixed olives and taramosalata. Main courses showcase the area’s fantastic fresh seafood and include ‘kritharaki ‘ – spanner crab with orzo pasta and ‘htapodi’ – char grilled octopus. There is also a great wine list including a selection of Greek specialities.
Or, if you’re after an even more casual and leisurely lunch, head to Fiddlers Green Irish Bar & Restaurant, 39 Cavill Avenue, located in the heart of Surfers Paradise. Here you can enjoy live music and comfort food like ‘bangers and mash’ and ‘beef lasagne’. The bar has a big screen, so it’s an ideal place to get together with friends to watch big sporting events. Oh, and being an Irish bar, there’s a range of beers and stouts on tap, including Guinness of course! As an incentive to return in the evening, kids can eat free from 5pm on weekdays.
For dinner, why not head to Cavalier Bar and Supper, 1710 Goldcoast Highway. This intimate restaurant and is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 5pm until late, so it’s a perfect place to relax after work. Their cocktails are stunning and their wine list features some of the best that Australia has on offer including Margaret River Riesling and Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir. The food has a rustic Italian feel with dishes like ‘Calamaretti Fritti’, crispy fried baby squid with lemon and salsa aglio, and ‘Gamberi Linguine’, king prawns with squid ink linguine in a sauce of tomatoes, capers, white wine and lemon. You can even book the whole restaurant for parties or special occasions, as it can take up to 75 guests.
Or, if you have more time on your hands, why not check out the sensual experience that is the Bazaar at QT, 7 Staghorn Avenue, Surfers Paradise. This is the buffet to end all buffets – a place where you have the opportunity to choose from a huge selection of mind-blowing foods including tapas, Asian-inspired dishes, old-school favourites, ice-cream sundaes and much, much more.
