With its balmy weather, Brisbane is a great city for rooftop bars. Writer Meegan Waugh recently explored one of the newest rooftop bars in the city, Elixir.
Elixir is located in Ann Street, Fortitude Valley and above the X & Y Bar. The bar, named for the mythical ‘elixir of life’, has had a lot of hype surrounding its opening.
Waugh described the bar has having a clever combination of intimacy and openness. The décor features natural and sleek touches such as lush foliage, wooden benches, and a marble-topped bar.
The floor space is limited and best suited to smaller groups. However, the open-air structure gives it a sense of spaciousness. Elixir’s seating spaces are edged with greenery and fairy lights, giving it a magical ambiance.
The selection at the bar is impressive, with a large cocktail menu, ciders, craft beers and share plates. Bottle service is available and the staff members are friendly and happy to offer advice on drinks. Overall Waugh gave Elixir a rating of 9 out of 10 and found the bar to be an exciting addition to the city’s tucked-away bars.
