Chinese guests are buying luxury brands in such quantities here in Australia that Meriton Serviced Apartments has had to increase the size of luggage rooms across their hotels to accommodate and store their guest’s purchases.
“All our serviced apartments, especially those close to Chinatown are really busy this time of the year in the lead-up to Christmas,” National Manager of Meriton Serviced Apartments, Matthew Thomas said.”

“The dollar is down and it is worth the relatively short trip from China to buy luxury brands.”

“These thrifty shoppers not only get brands at a bargain, their whole trip including accommodation, airfares and excess baggage –  to take their spend home – is covered by the price they would have to pay for the same brands in China.”

“In fact, they would have change left over.”

“The day of the bus shopping tour to buy opals is long gone. Because of our close proximity to the brand names from many of our serviced apartments, our guests can organise their own shopping tours.  We are here to help them at all times,” he said.

The Meriton Serviced Apartment experience is like no other. First class every step of the way, the large team of friendly, courteous staff is always accommodating and there to help. All the apartments are over-sized with stunning views and facilities and all staff give outstanding service.

Booking is now much easier for the Chinese since the launch of Meriton Serviced Apartment’s Chinese website.

“Since we have launched our Chinese website and booking tool our website hits are up by 84 per cent.  We also were one of the first hotel groups to accept China Union Pay which is used by over 5 billion customers globally,” Mr Thomas said.

China Union Pay makes transactions for the Chinese so much easier here in Australia so they don’t have to transfer funds from another card.

“Our porters know and understand this is a very busy time of the year for International guests to come here to buy up a storm before Christmas,” Mr Thomas said.

“They are available to move all our guest’s purchases to our new luggage rooms so they can enjoy their holiday in uncluttered peace and quiet.

Leaving for the airport with half a dozen suitcases, Meriton Serviced Apartments guest, Hi Ling said that she arrived with two suitcases and was returning with six.

“And that is just me,” she said.  “My husband has another six.

“The luxury labels are so much cheaper here,” Ms Ling said.

“I come here every year at this time with my husband.  We always stay with Meriton, shop all day and spend our evenings in Chinatown.”

“We have such a lovely apartment with beautiful views and even though we are in the middle of the city, the air is fresh and the crowds are still contained in comparison to what we see at home.”

“The word is getting around now.  We tell everyone of our great experience and many are now following our lead.  For us, even at the busiest time here in Sydney, it is nothing in comparison to the bedlam in China around this time of the year.  Breathing fresh air while you shop is still a novelty and I doubt it will ever lose its appeal.”

“After we have been shopping all day, we come back to our gorgeous apartment, kick off our shoes, have a drink, take in the stunning views then transfer our purchases into suitcases so the porters can come and collect our bags and store them for us.”

“We are then ready to do it all again the next day. The service here is outstanding,” she said.
