Woolworth’s Carols in the Domain19th December
One of the largest carols events in Australia is the Woolworth’s Carols in the Domain. Not only is it one of the biggest, it’s also free. The whole event kick starts at 12pm on the day, so there is plenty to see and do for the whole afternoon leading into the evening.
This event will surely get you into the Christmas spirit. Carols will be performed by some popular national and international artists, so you’ll be able to hear some great singers perform some of your favourite Christmas carols.
Be sure to bring a picnic blanket for you and the family to sit on. As the night draws to an end, the little ones may begin to get sleepy after a big day of excitement and of course, a visit from Santa.
If sitting on the grass doesn’t sound too much to your liking, for the first time VIP tickets will be sold to the public. These tickets give you access to premium seating with a copy of the official Carols Songbook for you to keep as a souvenir. Tickets are $99AUD, but are in limited numbers so be sure to book these tickets early if you want a spot in the VIP area.

The Art of the Brick: DC Comics21st November 2015 – 1st May 2016
If you have children who love their Lego blocks or perhaps you love comics and all things geeky, then this an event not to be missed. Running from November through to May of 2016, if you’re in Sydney in December there is plenty of time to take a look at this great exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum.
All of your favourite DC Comics characters will be able to be seen. From Wonder Woman and Superman right through to Batman and Harley Quinn, they will all be here built in Lego. Vehicles, landscapes, themes and the interpretation of Good vs Evil will all be displayed by legendary Lego artist Nathan Sawaya.
This will be the largest collection of DC Comic-inspired Lego art in the world, so it will definitely be worth your time to check out.
When accompanying a paying adult, children under 4 years of age are free to enter. Tickets are reasonably priced with family ticket options also available.
New Year’s Eve at Sydney Opera House31st December
Everyone knows how exciting and thrilling the fireworks over Sydney Harbour can be, with the whole of the world watching the show from their television screens. What could be even more exciting than this? Watching the show from the Sydney Opera House, of course.
There are quite a few different packages to choose from to suit your budget, so there’s sure to be an option for you to be able to enjoy one of the greatest firework displays the world has to offer. The first packages include a pre-performance dinner at ARIA Restaurant, with meals designed by Matt Moran. Or perhaps you just want to party? You can buy tickets to the midnight party where you can snack on canapes, enjoy some drinks and enjoy views of the fireworks from the Northern Foyers.
If you want to make a real splash, the largest package tickets include tickets to a show at the Opera House as well as entry into the Midnight Party and the pre-performance dinner at ARIA. Don’t worry about missing the 9pm fireworks if you choose the largest package, because the interval in the show will stop in time to be able to catch the first set of fireworks on the night.
Although there are many places all around the harbour, city and surrounding areas to enjoy your New Year’s Eve to see the fireworks display, the tickets available to enjoy the show at the Sydney Opera House will add a sense of glamour and provide for a spectacular night that you won’t ever forget. However, be sure to book ahead as these tickets will surely sell out long before the time comes around.
