A Guide to the Gold Coast’s Coolest Car Events
July 7, 2012
While the Gold Coast is most famous for its Indy and Super Car races, some of the coolest car events here attract a significantly less attention. Even though none of these events will be able to match the glitz and the glamour of the professional events, they still offer unique opportunities to get a good look at some truly incredible machines. If you are a car enthusiast and are looking for an excuse to head to the Gold Coast, the following cool car events are more than reason enough to go.
Gold Coast Hot Rod Show and Swap Meet (May 27, 2012)
There are no more spectacular looking machines than the old school hot rods, and the Gold Coast will be swarming with them again this year in celebrating the 18th year of this impressive show. Entry is only $5 and the show will be held at Skilled Park in Robina, so if your love of cars lies with the elaborate, fast and dramatic, be sure to check out the Gold Coast Hot Rod Show and Swap Meet this year.
Cooly Rocks On (June 1-11, 2012)
This awesome event is more like a festival where the cars are the guests of honour. Cooly Rocks On is a 10-day celebration of everything from the ‘50s, from the fashion to the music and amazing cars. This is the perfect event to take friends who aren’t yet hooked on cars, because regardless of anything else here, it is just a fun, rocking festival. If you love your ‘50s cars and want an excuse to dress up ‘50s style, book your Gold Coast accommodation for early June this year, and get yourself to Coolangatta.
Original Gold Coast Swap at Mudgeeraba (July 8, 2012)
Put on once again by the Gold Coast Auto Club, this cool event focuses on veteran, vintage and classic cars, as well as historic car parts, memorabilia, antiques, model cars and collectibles. Many camp out near the grounds the night before so as to be close by for the 5am start, and this pre-event camp-out often becomes a great way to meet other car enthusiasts. This is one of the more laid back car events on the Gold Coast, but often also one of the most fun, and needless to say the cars here are always impressive.
Corvettes on the Coast (September 16, 2012)
Held at the Southport Broadwater Parklands, this event is a corvette lover’s dream, as there are always dozens of corvettes on display and they always look fantastic. Corvettes of all types and conditions are on show, and with delicious food and drinks always on hand, Corvettes on the Coast is a guaranteed fantastic day on the Gold Coast.
If you are a car lover, you probably know already that a lot of cool car events happen on the Gold Coast, but some of the best are some of the lesser known. Instead of going to watch the Supercars again this year, book those holiday apartments for some different dates this time around and check out something a little smaller scale, because the smaller car shows can often be far cooler events.
