With so many families heading to the Gold Coast on vacation, there is always plenty to do in the fun-filled holiday hotspot. The Gold Coast is home to a number of free, low-cost, family-friendly events, but also has lots to offer the adventurous or relaxation-seeking visitor.
Here’s a look at what’s happening on the Gold Coast in the coming months:
‘Journeys to Sugaropolis’ is a historical look at the relationship between the Gold Coast and the Australian South Sea Islander. Once referred to as “Sugaropolis”, Australia’s sugar industry began on the Gold Coast and is an important part of Australia’s history.
Offering a variety of kids movies for free, the Gold Coast’s cinema under the stars is a great opportunity to chill out with friends, while tucking into a picnic dinner. A number of cinema locations available.
Enjoy a BBQ buffet, traditional Aboriginal dance, music and culture, while getting up close and personal with Australian wildlife. Meet the koalas, feed the kangaroos and listen to the sound of the didgeridoo echoing through the bushland.
From 9am, contestants will line the beach at Surfers Main Beach ready to try their luck at winning the 14th annual Beach Volleyball Tournament Cup. An afterparty will be held at the Surfers Surf Life Saving Club.
For three weeks, the Gold Coast will come alive with high-energy, action-packed street parades, live music, theatre, arts, film and family entertainment. Bleach* is a celebration of everything there is to love about the Gold Coast.
The state’s greatest surf lifesavers will come together for the annual Queensland Senior State Championships, where more than 2,000 contestants will hit the surf and sand at North Kirra in a quest for glory.
The Broadbeach Beachfront Markets are the Gold Coast’s original beachfront markets, having been running for 20 years. More than 150 stalls showcase the best of the region’s gifts, souvenirs and arts and crafts.
Carrara Markets is the biggest permanent market site in Australia, with more than 500 stalls covering an impressive ten acres. Here you will find a treasure trove of everything – produce, fashion, souvenirs, homewares and bric a brac.
Head along to the GCCC Library and recite or listen to poetry. Tea/coffee and a light snack is provided and everyone is welcome.
